The change in plans turned the Fort McMurray resident into an instant millionaire.

'Friends of mine wanted to go to Vegas,' Bennett said in a news release. 'But because the Canadian dollar is so low, we decided we'd do a Canadian version of Vegas, and we went to Edmonton for the weekend.'
Bennett, a sawmill worker, hit the jackpot at the River Cree Resort and Casino on Feb. 26, while playing the Diamond Millions progressive slot machine.
When the numbers came up, she couldn't believe it.
'I thought, 'No, no way!' I'm looking at the zeros, and I looked at the guy next to me. And he's like, 'Yes, you won $1 million!'
'And I still didn't believe it.'
Her celebration included champagne and a 30-ounce steak dinner, but she's in no rush to spend her winnings.

She will take her time, but said she's glad to be mortgage free and is planning a vacation with husband, Dave, and their two sons.
